Elon Musk said on social media that Tesla might get an app for the Apple Watch. He replied ‘Certainly’ when asked about it. But you never know for sure with Musk!
Tesla Apple Watch app
We’re not sure if Tesla will make an app for the Apple Watch yet. It seems like Elon Musk only thought of it when someone asked. Sometimes Tesla acts fast, but other times ideas just stay ideas. If they do make the app, you might be able to do things like unlock your car or turn on the seats from your watch. Right now, you can already do some stuff with Siri Shortcuts on the Tesla app for iPhone, like opening your trunk.
Plenty of third party apps, but none official
Some people have made their own apps for Tesla, like the Watch App for Tesla. It’s a bit expensive, but it lets you use your smartwatch as a car key. You’ll get a reminder on your Apple Watch if you forget to charge it. You can also do things like open your trunk or check your energy usage with buttons. Plus, you can set it to charge at night or do a bunch of commands in a row.
Did you know the first Tesla app for the Apple Watch came out in 2015? Back then, we wondered if Apple might make their own car and if you could control it with the Apple Watch. There were rumors about an Apple Car, but we all know how that story ended.
Other choices include Teri, Tessie, and Stats. Teri is an approved app that lets you control your Tesla from your Apple Watch, add Tesla-themed watch faces, and quickly access it with a widget. With the iPhone app, you can do even more, like syncing a light show to your favorite songs. But what Tesla users really want is to see live charging progress on their iPhone, like you can with Rivian. Rivian is also working on using the Apple Watch as a car key.
Tesla with CarKey function
It would be really convenient if Tesla added the Apple CarKey feature to the Wallet app right away. But it doesn’t seem likely. Tesla’s factories still don’t use CarPlay, and not many car makers have started using CarPlay yet. BMW and Mercedes-Benz have already started using CarKey, but only on a few models.
